Colorado & the Rockies The land of the cheyennes

With 300 days of sunshine a year, Colorado is a great state for a road trip and for active travellers.

You can explore by car, kayak, on a horse, on foot, and even by train.

You will find rolling hills as far as the eyes can see, rivers, waterfalls and vineyards; mountain with snow-capped peaks and pine forests, but also sand dunes and deserts.

Denver:  A true symbol of the American way of life, the capital of Colorado is nestled high above sea level, the Rockies as a backdrop. An authentic city of the conquest of the West, born at the time of the Colorado Gold Rush, today it displays a cultural and dynamic face with its beautiful museums, renovated old quarters and lively alleys. It is a dynamic city with street art, shops and breweries (under a ceiling of bright garlands in the evening) The stunning Union Station, with its restaurants, beer galleries and billiards-the city’s museums is a must see as well as the Denver Art Museum and its beautiful collection of Indian art.

Mesa Verde:
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is home to the largest concentration of Native American caves and troglodyte villages. The cliff-side » pueblos” are among the most remarkable and best preserved on the North American continent, and bear witness to seven centuries of history.

The mining town of Durango is old Colorado with Victorian-era saloons, charming bungalows and quiet streets. Its flagship attraction remains its steam train.

Great Sand Dunes:
Explore the highest mountains of sand in North America.  This is the result of the San Luis Valley’s unique wind patterns.
The entire dune field encompasses 30 square miles and the tallest dune towers 750 feet high.

Colorado Springs: The red rock formations at Garden of the Gods are stunning.

Rocky Mountain National Park: home to the highest mountains in America, there are 78 mountains taller than 12,000 feet within the park It offers magnificent landscapes with forests, alpine lakes, snowy peaks and wildflowers. The best way to visit it is to take one of the 350 hiking trails, the opportunity to meet exceptional wildlife: bald eagles, sheep, elk and even black bears. There are also lakes with blue steel waters as well as the highest paved road in the United States: the Trail Ridge Road.

Aspen:  This is also a former mining town that has become one of the most upscale and glamour ski resorts in North America, renowned for the typical Victorian-era downtown architecture, its restaurants and trendy shops. Many personalities have established their second homes there. Throughout the year, many festivals – art, music, cuisine – animate the resort, which offers many outdoor activities. The name of the city is probably due to its trees with stunning golden tones, playing on a very impressionist palette, especially in the fall.

Explore its natural wonder: The red rock formations at Garden of the Gods, the tallest sand dunes in the country, Maroon Peak and North Maroon Peak are some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, the beauty of the waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes and the deepest hot spring in the world and of course wildlife with an abundant population of large mammals like grizzlies, wolves, elk and mountain lions.

Discover a rich and vibrant culture:  enigmatic pre-Columbian ruins  such as Mesa Verde, American Indian Art at the Denver Art Museum, 250 buildings on the National Historic Register in Breckenridge making its Main Street an absolute dream to wander, and Argo Gold Mine and Mill.

For foodies:  Colorado has 348 breweries and they love their beers.  They have the largest beer festival in the country.   It is also known for its food court and food trucks.  Unlike established restaurants, food halls allow up-and-coming restaurateurs and cutting-edge cuisine to flourish. For active travels:  Zipline over beautiful Royal Gorge canyon or raft down the Arkansas River, hike the Colorado Trail, join working cowboys on a genuine cattle drive, canyoning Colorado, downclimb, scramble and rappel before you tackle the ultimate challenge: a controlled descent down a 50-foot waterfall,
