Day 1:  San Diego for 3 nights
Pick up car your convertible car at San Diego airport

Discover the Hispanic heritage of San Diego.  It is the southernmost city on the California coast, and also the oldest. It was founded in 1769, and has retained some Spanish influence. 
Visit the Old Town State Historic Park.  This is San Diego’s original downtown and a visit to Fiesta de Reyes will transport you into a Mexican atmosphere with dining arcades and mariachi players. 

Then head to Hillcrest for a complete change of scenery.  It is an urban pedestrian neighborhood.  It is hip and eclectic and very gay friendly.  Enter into trendy boutiques, vintage clothing stores, and an array of restaurants and cafes.
Grab something to eat in this vibrant area before getting Balboa Park, the nation’s largest urban cultural park.  17 museums, the Botanical Building, a magnificent century-old lath structure (admission, free) filled with more than 2,000 plants. Wander past the Spanish Colonial Revival-style buildings along the pedestrian mall, El Prado.

Cross the the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge to go back to your hotel

Drive across the 2-mile-long, curved San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge with the wind whistling in your ears. If you’ve rented a convertible, put the top down now. In a word: invigorating.

Day 2:
Enjoy a lazy day

1 hour stand-up paddleboard course
In the calm waters of Mission Bay, it is easy  to learn how to balance yourself on the board, and paddle your way out into the water. If you’re lucky, you may catch sight of a sea lion.

 Have lunch at The Lucha Libre taqueria, where the theme is costumed Mexican wrestlers and among the best tacos in town.

Return to your hotel to enjoy the beach that afternoon

In the early evening head to Ocean Beach for a hippie vive, to catch a glimpse at surfers, pelicans and the breathtaking scenery of this coastal neighborhood.   Make sure to arrive before sunset. 

Then take a stroll down Newport Avenue, the main street, which is lined with breweries, and fish tacos restaurants. 
If you are in the mood for Italian cuisine instead, you should head to South Park.  If you like pizza, you will love Buona Forchetta restaurant and their pizza topped with burrata.  (the only downside is that they don’t take reservations, put you can put your name on the list and sip a cocktail across the street at Kindred)

Day 3
Drive to La Jolla

3 hour private guided hiking tour of La Jolla caves and seals
We will start in La Jolla at the children’s pool. You will be able to view the seals bathing in the sun and be able to explore the coast and take pictures. We will then take a stroll up the coast to the caves where we will explore one of the caves through the La Jolla cave store. We will then head to Torrey Pines on a scenic drive up the coast passing multiple San Diego sites including Scripps Ranch Institute and glider point. Torrey Pines offers a variety of hiking trails, and the best being the main beach trail, which we will explore.

Have lunch in upscale, exclusive restaurant in La Jolla near Prospect Street.

Rest of the afternoon at leisure.
If you are up for a swim, head to La Jolla’s most spectacular spot above La Jolla Cove. Enjoy the calm, crystal-clear waters.  Relax on the sandy beach; you can glimpse marine life such as starfish, sea anemones, and sea urchins

Dinner reservation at Restaurant Il Fornaio for one last amazing view on the Pacific Ocean.
Restaurant is perched atop del mar plaza with huge windows and serves excellent Italian cuisine. 

 Day 4
Drop off car at San Diego airport
